KALAMAZOO (March 9, 2026) – The American Red Cross plays a critical role in helping residents and communities recover in the days and weeks after a disaster. Here are key highlights about its disaster response operation in Southwest Michigan:
- Since Friday, more than 30 trained Red Cross disaster workers – 90 percent of whom are volunteers – are supporting the disaster operation.
- An emergency shelter at Riverside Church in Three Rivers closes at 6 p.m. today.
- Red Cross volunteers are continuing their assessments of residential damage in impacted communities. This work will help us to better understand what help families may need in the days and weeks ahead.
- Red Cross volunteers are distributing emergency supplies to residents in impacted communities, beginning today in Union City in Branch County. Supplies include rakes, tarps, shovels, heavy-duty gloves, and snacks and water.
- Help people affected by disasters like tornadoes, floods and countless other crises by making a gift to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Your gift enables the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters big and small. Call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit redcross.org/Michigan.
- All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers.
- The Red Cross continues to work closely with local community partners across the impacted areas to evaluate the needs of residents.
Residents who were impacted by the storms and need help can contact 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767).
