ANN ARBOR (Nov. 15, 2024) – The American Red Cross will host the Be a Hero blood drive, in partnership with the University of Michigan, on Sunday, Nov. 17, to collect blood donations as part of the annual Blood Battle competition between U-M and rival Ohio State University.
Be a Hero is the largest single-day blood drive on the U-M campus and donors can see Michigan Stadium from the Jack Roth Stadium Club. It will be held from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Those who come to give will have the chance to tour Michigan Stadium, also known as the Big House, from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. Victor the Frisbee dog will be on hand at the stadium’s front entrance from 10 a.m. – noon.
Be a Hero is the signature event of the Blood Battle, which challenges the two universities to collect the most pints of blood during a series of blood drives held in October and November. The Red Cross hosts the blood drives in partnership with U-M. The last blood drive is Nov. 27.
All presenting donors who give at Be a Hero and other Blood Battle blood drives will receive a commemorative T-shirt and coupons to local businesses. There also will be prizes and giveaways.
To sign up to donate blood, visit RedCrossBlood.org and type sponsor code “goblue” in the search box, call 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) or download the Red Cross Blood Donor App. Appointments are preferred but walks-in are welcome.
