KALAMAZOO (Aug. 22, 2025) – Raul Galvan has been named executive director of the Southwest Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross Michigan Region, the same chapter where his Red Cross career began. The position is part of the region’s leadership team.
As executive director, Galvan leads the Kalamazoo-based chapter that covers eight counties. He will collaborate with all Red Cross services lines in the chapter including disaster, blood collection, lifesaving skills training, and helping members of the military, veterans, and their family members prepare for, cope with, and respond to, the challenges of military service.
Galvan previously served as regional director of the Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) and International Services in Michigan for the past two years. Prior to that, he was regional preparedness and planning manager from 2019 to 2023. Galvan joined the Red Cross in 2015 as disaster program manager of the Southwest Michigan Chapter.
In addition to his Red Cross career, Galvan is a military reservist. Currently, he serves as a civil affairs officer for the U.S. Army Reserve in the 308th Civil Affairs Brigade, headquartered in Homewood, Illinois. Prior to that position, he served as a civil affairs officer for the Kalamazoo-based 415th Civil Affairs Battalion from March 2010 to May 2021.
Galvan earned his bachelor’s degree at Western Michigan University. During his military service he has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Clusters, and Combat Action Badge. He is also a certified CPR, first aid and AED instructor.
