NORTHERN MICHIGAN (April 16, 2026) – The American Red Cross has opened additional emergency shelters to ensure anyone impacted by the flooding in Northern Michigan has a safe place to stay and no one faces this heartbreaking situation alone. Residents impacted byflooding can call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767) for assistance.
Red Cross shelters are at these locations:
Red Cross shelters are a safe place for everyone in need, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability or citizenship status. The Red Cross does not require people to show any kind of identification to enter a shelter – just their name and where they were living before the flooding.
People who plan to stay in a shelter are encouraged to bring prescription medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, other comfort items and important documents.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, thanks to the generosity of our donors and volunteers.
Currently, 34 Red Crossers are supporting the disaster relief operation in Northern Michigan.
The Red Cross continues to work closely with emergency management and community partners who are monitoring multiple dams and rivers in varying levels of flood stage and concern levels in Northern Michigan.
