DETROIT (Nov. 21, 2022) – The American Red Cross Michigan Region is inviting the community to support local veterans this holiday season.
Under the Red Cross’ annual Holidays for Heroes initiative, people can purchase gift items on a Heroes Wish List for veterans receiving care at VA hospitals, veteran homes and other veteran-related specialty facilities in Michigan.
Gift items range from clothing apparel and personal health and hygiene products to flashlights and batteries and small household devices. Items purchased on the Heroes Wish List are sent directly to the Red Cross for delivery to the designated veteran locations. Gift items can be purchased through Dec. 31.
“We’re incredibly grateful to our military veterans for their service and sacrifice,” said Jessica Wheeler, regional director of the Service to the Armed Forces in Michigan. “This is one way we can show our appreciation during this time of year.”
The Red Cross helps members of the military, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to the challenges of military service. Each year, the Red Cross assists more than 240,000 military and veteran families by leveraging a network of volunteers across the country and around the world. In 2022, the Red Cross has distributed more than 3,000 health and wellness items to veterans in Michigan. Through its Hero Care Network, the Red Cross connects service members, veterans, and their families to free and confidential assistance 24/7. Free resiliency workshops, available both in person and online to military and veteran families, provide effective tools for facing challenges and stress.
