A Red Cross feeding team coordinated a luncheon for over 150 areas residents in front of O’Fallon Park that was extensively damaged by a recent tornado that struck St. Louis.
A local church has been providing residents impacted by the tornado with clothing, household items, baby items and hot food daily. This busy commercial corner in front of the park has been a great location for the outreach of affected residents.
The Red Cross coordinated with the church to serve the meals as they came for available supplies and disaster information.
Frank Staten, a neighborhood resident, picked up meals for his family of five. The family home two blocks away was damaged and he has applied for assistance to fix his home. Frank said he’s thankful the family didn’t have to leave their home because of the damage.
Frank expressed his appreciation for all the services he has received from all the service providers, especially the Red Cross teams that have reached out to him.
The feeding team that distributed meals from its Emergency Response Vehicle was able to talk to everyone that came and offered information as well and a Red Cross card that has contact information for additional questions and service requests.
A well-balanced meal delivered in their community allows the Red Cross to talk to residents who may not be aware of services and resources available to those affected by the disaster.
The hot meal was well received in a community recovering from all the damage. The Red Cross will continue to reach out to all the areas affected by this disaster.
