Snow and cold temperatures have not stopped Red Cross volunteers from continuing to support communities affected by recent flooding in numerous towns across New Jersey. This week, Red Cross teams were out in Wayne, checking on families at a manufactured home community, where flooding had affected many of the homes there in December. Disaster workers also patrolled through Paterson with an Emergency Response Vehicle, providing clean-up kits, meals, snacks and water. On Monday, in partnership with Delran Township and Burlington County Office of Emergency Management, Red Cross disaster workers handed out relief items such as clean-up kits, water and snacks at a supply distribution center at Delran Middle School.
Since January 9, 2024, the American Red Cross New Jersey Region had 3 temporary shelters open and staffed several reception centers, providing affected people with a place to seek refuge from the floods and cold temperatures. Red Cross disaster workers have provided nearly 3,000 meals and snacks throughout flood-impacted communities like Little Falls, Paterson, New Milford, Lodi, Delran, Wayne, Lincoln Park, Denville, Cinnaminson, and Pompton Lakes. Our disaster workers have distributed 900 emergency relief items, including clean-up kits and other supplies to people in need. To date, these relief operations have helped hundreds of affected households and have been supported by 130 trained Red Cross disaster workers.
“I wanted to take a moment to thank our volunteers for the many, many hours you have put in to support your communities and deliver the Red Cross mission during this time,” said Rosie Taravella, CEO, American Red Cross New Jersey Region. “Despite the storms and the cold, you have been out there selflessly helping your neighbors who must cope with flooded homes – and for many this means again, less than a month after flooding during the last storm in December.”
