The American Red Cross is hitting the road in Wayne County to give residents the opportunity to learn more about programs and services, as well as explore ways to support the Red Cross as a volunteer. 

Volunteers will be parking the Emergency Command Vehicle in local communities. Visitors can tour the mobile unit, and find out what Red Cross volunteers do every day to prepare and respond to disasters, collect blood to save lives, or assist military service members at home or deployed. 

Volunteer Information events are scheduled for Jan. 14 at the Walmart Supercenter located at 425 NY-31 in Macedon, and on Jan. 21 at Tops Friendly Markets located at 2140 Walworth Penfield Rd. in Walworth. Both events will be held 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 

Another display will be set up prior to a Blood Drive on Jan. 27 at Palmyra Town Hall, 1180 Canandaigua Rd. Volunteers will be available to speak about opportunities to help at blood drives and other Red Cross services from 12:30 – 2 p.m. That will be followed by the Blood Drive from 2 – 7 p.m. The Red Cross has a severe winter blood shortage and is issuing an emergency call for blood and platelet donors to give now and help save patient lives.
