The service our volunteers provided...has the potential to save lives.
The American Red Cross, in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, People’s Gas and SERVPRO in Northview Heights (Pittsburgh’s North Side) and Waynesburg University and Waynesburg University Alumni in Waynesburg Borough, hosted two Home Fire Campaign install events on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Close to 150 free smoke alarms were installed and countless families were educated on the importance of having and practicing home fire escape plans.
“All too often we hear of people who perish in home fires,” noted Dan Tobin, Red Cross Western Pennsylvania Region Director of Marketing and Communications. “Having a working smoke alarm can increase your chances of making it to safety by over 50%. The service our volunteers provided during the events in Northview Heights and Waynesburg on Saturday has the potential to save lives.”
The Red Cross is extremely grateful to the following companies and organizations that assisted with the Northview Heights event: City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, People’s Gas, SERVPRO, Humana, North Hills Church of Latter Day Saints, and Rodman Baptist Church. For the Waynesburg event, the Red Cross would like to thank Waynesburg University and Waynesburg University Alumni.
Tobin added, “We are so very fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers who are willing to take time out of their busy schedules to improve the lives of others in our communities. Due to their efforts, the Red Cross is able to help people to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters big and small.”
A special shout-out goes to Debra and Andy Anderson (pictured here with Red Cross staffers Sandi Wraith and Tina Hammett) from the Waynesburg event for installing the most alarms of a team – 22 installed. Nicely done!
