The American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign helps save lives by installing free smoke alarms in homes that don't have them, and by educating people about home fire safety.
Want to learn how to make your home safer?
Join Our Sound the Alarm Prepare-a-thon!
The Prepare-a-thon is a month-long challenge, kicking off in early April, where individuals commit to provide virtual home fire education to residents across Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Do You Need Working Smoke Alarms?
With the support of local volunteers and partners, the Red Cross can help.
SAFETY FIRST! As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the Red Cross is adapting Sound the Alarm activities to protect the people we serve and our volunteers. Sound the Alarm may look different this year but our lifesaving mission to make families and communities safer from home fire continues.
In a Home Fire, Can Your Family Safely Escape in Just 2 Minutes?
Prepare, respond and help families recover from home fires.
1. The Red Cross and its partners can test existing smoke alarms and install up to three free smoke alarms for those that need them.
2. The Rhode Island Red Cross will provide installation services in Rhode Island only. Requests will be fulfilled as resources allow, with priority given to requests during National Sound the Alarm events. If you live outside of this area and would like to identify your local region office, please visit Redcross.org (or call 1-800-REDCROSS)
3. If you are able to purchase and install your own smoke alarm but would like information on home fire safety and smoke alarm installation, please visit Redcross.org/homefire.
