Local Anderson businesses support Red Cross during annual tennis tournament
The American Red Cross of Upstate SC is thrilled to announce a generous donation from local businesses in partnership with Cardinal Racquet Club in Anderson.
The event has been going on for over a decade but for the past seven years, the Red Cross of South Carolina has partnered with Cardinal Racquet Club to host a tennis tournament. In 2013 the event had 14 sponsors and has been growing every year. The event this year, held in August, had 34 sponsors and raised nearly $8,000. Since the start of the yearly tradition, the event has raised more than $53,000 for the local Red Cross. Those donations help the Red Cross meet its mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering.
Each year, Cardinal Racquet Club provides the space and entertainment for the event that is filled with a cook-out, prizes and more.
"It's truly been a pleasure working with the people at Cardinal to raise money for the Red Cross through this tennis tournament. They could not be more gracious,” said Scott Drake a member of the American Red Cross Anderson Advisory Council. “And many thanks to the businesses that choose to be sponsors. They seem to welcome the opportunity to contribute to the Red Cross and help us carry out our mission."
Last year, the Red Cross of Upstate SC assisted more than 1,800 people after a local disaster, taught more than 10,000 people in lifesaving courses, provided nearly 3,000 case services to military, veterans and their families and collected nearly 1,900 units of lifesaving blood. More than 550 active volunteers support the chapter.
