American Red Cross community emergency vehicles are the driving force behind our humanitarian mission. Without these reliable community emergency vehicles, our lifesaving work simply wouldn’t be possible, and the South Carolina Region is in need of a new fleet of vehicles to deliver this lifesaving mission.
"These vehicles deliver food, supplies, and hope to disaster drivers all across the country," said Red Cross volunteer Ashley Baxter.
Every day, the American Red Cross assists people who face disasters, and it is the emergency response vehicles at the frontline of this critical work. In the last year, the Red Cross of South Carolina responded to nearly 1,700 local disasters. These signature red and white vans deliver food, supplies and hope to disaster survivors locally and across the country. Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles continue to help drive the humanitarian mission forward, providing the volunteer workforce with trusted means to easily reach people in need in the wake of emergencies big and small.
"We deliver a lot of blood," said Mary Mitchell, a Red Cross volunteer who drives a Red Cross blood transportation vehicle. "I've been stopped in parking lots by family members who say my husband, my son, my mother, is alive because of this blood."
The Red Cross delivers life-saving blood products from Red Cross distribution facilities to hospitals, using a Red Cross Blood Transportation vehicle. In the last year, the Red Cross of South Carolina collected more than 71,700 units of lifesaving blood to be delivered to hospital patients in need.
