South Carolina, June 29, 2026 – The American Red Cross of South Carolina is excited to announce a new Regional Disaster Officer for South Carolina. Michael Dunkin will start his new role this week serving the South Carolina region, supporting staff, volunteers, strengthening our disaster response capabilities, and ensuring that we are ready to serve communities when they need us most. Michael brings more than 30 years of exceptional leadership experience directing complex operations, people, and resources in high-stakes environments.
Recently serving as Director of Staff for the South Carolina Air National Guard, Michael oversaw more than 450 full-time staff and managed personnel actions for over 1,300 members. His leadership has consistently demonstrated a strong ability to align strategy with execution, ensuring teams are prepared, supported, and positioned to succeed. His previous roles, including Vice Wing Commander and Squadron Commander, highlight his deep experience in operations, logistics, personnel development, and mission execution, including humanitarian response efforts in Haiti following a major disaster.
“Becoming part of the South Carolina Region of the American Red Cross is an extraordinary privilege,” said Michael Dunkin, Regional Disaster Officer. “Our volunteers and disaster teams embody the very best of service and resilience, and their commitment drives our mission forward. Their passion and selflessness are nothing short of remarkable. I’m excited to champion their work and help ensure we continue delivering hope, relief, and support to families and communities across the state every single day.”
Last year, the American Red Cross of South Carolina volunteers provided care, food, hope, and shelter to more than 5,000 people who faced emergencies. The Red Cross of South Carolina responded to more than 1,600 local disasters and distributed more than $1,000,000 in direct financial assistance to those impacted. These accomplishments of the Red Cross of South Carolina are a product of the hard work and dedication of 3,368 local Red Cross volunteers in our community.
