Disaster-trained team members with the American Red Cross of South Carolina have helped over 500 people after strong storms and multiple tornadoes hit parts of South Carolina on April 13th.
The Red Cross of South Carolina:
We are currently still sheltering 110 people in hotels across the state and the case work emphasis has shifted to helping those families transition from the hotels to more permanent housing solutions. In some cases, this includes providing financial assistance to families to overcome barriers to finding that housing solution. In addition, we are providing home kits containing various household items like cleaning supplies, paper products etc, to clients staying in the hotels. To date, our teams have completed over 1,000 damage assessments.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, our response is adjusted but our mission remains the same. We are conducting a large portion of our response virtually.
