Disaster-trained volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping roughly 55 people after an apartment fire along Atlantic Palms Lane in North Charleston Tuesday night. More than 20 units were damaged.
Red Cross of South Carolina Disaster team members responded, both in-person and virtually, to provide comfort kits, containing personal hygiene items, and financial assistance for immediate needs to the families impacted.
“Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by tonight’s large fire and the Red Cross of South Carolina remains committed to helping them recover amid this COVID19 pandemic,” said Ashley Henyan, the Executive Director of the Lowcountry Chapter. “This is the second large apartment fire in the Charleston area in the past few days and I am so grateful for our volunteers that remain committed to continue carrying out the mission of the Red Cross. This serves as a sad reminder that fires can happen anywhere at any time and it is important for families to prepare."
In addition to immediate needs, Red Cross team members are providing virtual mental and spiritual care assistance to anyone that may need it. The Red Cross will continue to stay in contact with its partners to see if any additional assistance is needed.
