Disaster-trained volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping approximately 14 people after an apartment fire along Midland Parkway in North Charleston Sunday afternoon. The number of people receiving assistance may increase in the coming days. At least 16 units at the Hidden Lake Apartment Complex were damaged.
More than a dozen Red Cross of South Carolina disaster team members responded virtually to provide financial assistance for immediate needs like shelter, food and clothes to the families impacted.
“As our teams begin to work with the families impacted, we are thinking about all of them and want to provide support,” said Ashley Henyan, the Executive Director of the Lowcountry Chapter. “This is another sad reminder that fires can happen anywhere at any time and we must always be prepared for such disasters.”
In addition to immediate needs, Red Cross team members are providing virtual mental and spiritual care assistance to anyone that may need it. The Red Cross will continue to stay in contact with its partners to see if any additional assistance is needed.
