Disaster-trained volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping approximately 20 people after an apartment fire along Mr. Joe White Avenue Wednesday morning. Nearly a dozen units were damaged.
Red Cross of South Carolina Disaster team members are virtually responding to provide financial assistance for immediate needs like shelter, food and clothes to the families impacted.
“As our teams work with the families impacted, we are thinking about all of them and want to provide support,” said Amy Brauner, the Executive Director of the Eastern Chapter. “This is another sad reminder that fires can happen anywhere at any time and we must always be prepared for such disasters.”
In addition to immediate needs, Red Cross team members are providing virtual mental and spiritual care assistance to anyone that may need it. The Red Cross will continue to stay in contact with its partners to see if any additional assistance is needed.
HOW TO HELP: The American Red Cross responds to an average of six home fires everyday in South Carolina. In many cases, the families impacted lose everything. You can help support these families by providing them the financial assistance they need for a place to stay, food and clothing.
