Disaster-trained volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping approximately 20 people after an apartment fire along Greens Boulevard in Myrtle Beach Friday morning. At least 8 units were damaged.
About half a dozen Red Cross of South Carolina Disaster team members responded, both in-person and virtually, to provide comfort kits, containing personal hygiene items, and financial assistance for immediate needs to the families impacted.
“Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this morning’s fire and the Red Cross of South Carolina remains committed to helping them recover,” said Amy Brauner, the Executive Director of the Eastern Chapter. “This is a reminder that fires can happen anywhere, at any time; even during a Pandemic. We encourage families to check your smoke alarms and make sure you have a fire escape plan that you have practiced.”
In addition to immediate needs, Red Cross team members are providing virtual mental and spiritual care assistance to anyone that may need it. The Red Cross will continue to stay in contact with its partners to see if any additional assistance is needed.
