Once you have completed the application process and background check, a volunteer recruiter will contact you to discuss volunteer opportunities and together you will determine a match. Consider how much time you are interested in dedicating, your skills and talents, where you are willing to volunteer, and what your schedule is.

Q. How old must I be to volunteer with the American Red Cross?
Each Line of Service has various age requirements starting with the age of 13. All youth under the age of 18 must have parental consent on file and be accompanied by an adult for supervision. Click to learn about youth opportunities.
Q. What is the time commitment required to volunteer?
Time commitments vary according to the area in which you choose to volunteer. It can be as little as 4 hours per month. The specifics will be discussed with you by a Red Cross Screener upon completion of your application and background check. Application and background checks are submitted through Volunteer Connection.
Q. May I volunteer from home?
Our volunteer job opportunities vary, which enables some volunteers to work from home or in the field.
Q. Can I volunteer for disaster relief operations nationally and/or outside of the United States?
Yes, although you must have experience with disaster response as a local Red Cross volunteer. To acquire that experience, you must register, train and serve with your local chapter first. There is no better time than now to start, so complete an application today!
