Red Crossers, including disaster responder Trevor Sheeley, made homes safer in Denton and Fort Worth communities in January by installing more than 300 smoke alarms in 121 homes and raising awareness.
February - Midwestern State Rolls Up Its Sleeve to Host Blood Drive
Midwestern State University hosted its first blood drive on February 20. A blood transfusion is needed every two seconds nationwide, and MSU came together to support this life-saving cause, which can help accident victims, cancer patients and many others.
“We’re Texans. When devastation happens, that is when we come together to help each other. I thank the Red Cross for coming into our community and bringing us supplies. You’ve brought me hope today,” said Brenda Umbarger after the fire took her home.
April - North Texas Region and Volunteers Honored for Disaster Simulation
The American Red Cross honored the North Texas Region and local health service volunteers for their Academic Service-Learning disaster simulation at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. Over 90% of the Red Cross workforce consists of volunteers.
May - Plano Teen Receives American Red Cross Certificate of Merit
Adrian Ponce, a 17-year-old Plano, Texas resident, was awarded the American Red Cross Certificate of Merit for his heroic actions to help save the life of Marcia Hansen in September 2023 after she took a fall.
June - Finding Malu | The People and Program Behind a Red Cross Reunification
A brother and sister reconnected after losing touch eight years ago while fleeing the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Franck settled in Texas, and with the aid of the Red Cross, he managed to locate his sister in Zimbabwe.
July - Red Cross and American Legion Host Veteran Resiliency Workshop
Red Cross and American Legion Post 100 out of Royse City partnered to teach veterans effective communication tools to cope with stress. In the past year, the Red Cross North Texas has provided more than 14,000 services to veterans and their families.
August - Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle Honors North Texas Volunteer
The Florida Red Cross deployed "Eric Klein," an Emergency Response Vehicle, to Texas for its first deployment. The vehicle was named after local volunteer Eric Klein in recognition of his dedicated service to the organization.

September - Make a Plan and Build an Emergency Kit
National Preparedness Month is a national opportunity that recurs every September. The Red Cross offers various preparedness plans and "Red Cross Ready" training to empower people to help themselves during an emergency and be more resilient.
October - Red Cross Celebrates 10th Anniversary of the Home Fire Campaign
The American Red Cross North Texas, The Salvation Army and the Fort Worth Fire Department partnered to install free smoke alarms in a Fort Worth neighborhood during a Sound the Alarm event, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Home Fire Campaign.
November - Red Crossers Respond to Crisis of Extreme Weather
Between 1980 and 2010, Texas averaged two major weather incidents per year. Since then, Texas has averaged 8.5 major weather incidents per year. This means that the Red Cross must remain on alert all year long to respond to any weather incident.
December - Inclusive Screening Process Expands Blood Donor Eligibility
