Hero of a Lifetime – Sherry Wallace (Ladysmith, WI)
Sherry is a Rusk County EMT whom went above and beyond the call of duty to assist grieving officers during an active shooter investigation in Rusk County. Not only did she effectively utilize her EMT training, she provided coffee, food, and support out of the kindness of her heart to all affected. In addition to being a dedicated EMT, she has been a lifelong blood donor who inspires all with her courage, kindness, and dedication to giving back to the community.
Health Care Heroes – Dr. Gagandeep Singh & Dr. Chetna Mangat (Eau Claire, WI)
Gagandeep and Chetna, both doctors, boarded a plane on October 25, 2017 destined for Phoenix, AZ with their two children. When a passenger on the plane went into cardiac arrest, they both immediately sprang into action and started CPR. If not for their swift action and CPR training, the passenger likely would not have survived.
Adult Good Samaritan – Dave Mack (Black River Falls, WI)
Dave and his friend were having a successful day of ice fishing on a balmy Saturday in February, when Dave suggested to try one more hole a little north before calling it a day. While walking on the ice, Dave’s friend suddenly found himself in the icy river clinging to the edge of the ice. Thankfully due to Dave and his swift response, he was able to pull his friend to safety.
Community Hero - Kessea Kahl (Cornell, WI)
When Kessea lost her grandson to drowning, she took the initiative to ensure families never go through what her family did. Kessea developed a community organization that ensures all children receive swimming lessons, free-of-charge, no matter their age. In addition, she has provided life jackets to those in need, and has ensured various area swimming locations have life jackets for all to use. Kessea is passionate about drowning prevention and is committed to keeping everyone safe near water.
From the Heart Hero – Stephen Mackiewicz (Rice Lake, WI)
Stephen is a retired paramedic whom knows that life-saving blood is critical. He has been a strong supporter of American Red Cross Blood Services for years by consistently donating blood, which has helped countless patients. By dedicating his time regularly to blood donation, Stephen has helped provide much needed blood to countless patients.
Youth Good Samaritan – Anna Allen (Eau Claire, WI)
Anna, a freshman at Regis High School is committed to giving back and helping others. This past year, she hosted multiple garage sales with the proceeds going toward charity. In her final garage sale of 2017, she raised over $2,500 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Anna is a kind and generous individual that truly enjoys making a difference.
Military Hero - Leroy “Buzz” Thompson (Osseo, WI)
Leroy, an United States Marine Corps veteran is an active supporter of veterans in the community. When he knows of a Veteran or family member in need, he will provide information on benefits, counseling programs, and will try to do everything that he can do to support the individual(s) in need. Leroy has a huge heart, an unwavering sense of duty, and is proud to support Veterans and their families in the community.
