First, we would like you to know a little about our organization and the opportunities we offer. We encourage you to complete our online self-assessment to see how well you align with our organization’s mission, goals, and lines of service.
If you find we are a good fit for you, please look at our list of Volunteer Opportunities. Next, visit the Volunteer page and follow the directions to fill out an application, take your orientation, and meet your local Red Cross team!
Our volunteer job opportunities vary which enables some volunteers to work from home or in the field.
Background checks have been an area of focus at the American Red Cross and encouraged for many years. The Red Cross continues to reaffirm our accountability to the American public. Background checks help us achieve a more efficient and safer work environment for our employees and volunteers. Volunteers under the age of 18 are not required to complete a background check.
All volunteers are required to take a Red Cross Volunteer Orientation. Many of our other positions do require training, most of which are free or offered at-cost to volunteers. The rich and varied training opportunities with the American Red Cross of Wisconsin are just one benefit of volunteering with our organization.
Yes, although we strongly encourage you to gain experience first as a local Red Cross disaster volunteer. To acquire that experience, you must register, train and serve through our Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) system. Most volunteers choose to put their skills in practice and current by working on their local county’s Disaster Action Team (DAT), responding to the local disasters that occur every day in our community. You can find out more about the process and how to get involved during your volunteer orientation process.
Typically, there are very few volunteers deployed internationally and they are specially trained to manage international emergency operations. Please consider supporting your community’s needs by volunteering with your local American Red Cross chapter.
We encourage you to reach out to us at volunteerwisconsin@redcross.org to schedule a time to talk regarding your court ordered hours. Once you have found out more information about our organization and the opportunities we offer, you will still need to go through the Volunteer process, so follow the steps to getting yourself into the system. Once you have completed the steps listed in “How do I become a volunteer?”, you will be ready to volunteer! The process can take up to a month to get started since you need to sign up for a Volunteer Orientation before you begin volunteering. It is your responsibility to contact us early enough to complete your service in a timely manner.
