News Story: Her life Was Saved Because Seven Strangers Took Time to Donate Blood
Denise Whittington is alive today because seven strangers decided to donate blood. Denise received seven units of blood after a surgery perforated her left iliac artery.
Laura Smith, a teacher and athletic trainer, saved the life of a young student who collapsed during a soccer game. Her actions earned her a Hero of the Year award.
Andrew Yao knows the importance of helping our nation’s military personnel and their families. Andrew provides comfort and care to military personnel here in the United States. Soon he’ll be providing that comfort and care from afar.
Darlene Moore is no stranger to helping others. She recently returned home from an American Red Cross disaster deployment to Texas, where she helped provide shelter to those displaced by Hurricane Beryl. Now she finds herself on the other side.

Warren Weathers and Curtis Jack, volunteers from Southeastern Colorado, drove an Emergency Response Vehicle to New Mexico to assist with the Ruidoso Wildfire.
Friends, family, Red Crossers and CrossFit athletes came together for the first annual JacksPak blood drive and it was a huge success! In total, we collected 39 units of blood, with 65% of the donors giving blood for the first time!

6-year-old Mackynzie and her family spent several days at a shelter after evacuating their home due to a wildfire. She made this sign to say "thank you" to our incredible volunteers (like Jane Iddings, pictured here) for the comfort and care they provided her family.
Red Crosser Silvia Aguirre-Peppera, along with Janet Lewis, provided food for firefighters who were battling the Granite Fire in Laramie County, about 25 miles west of Cheyenne.
