About all that Samuel Gonzalez has to look at these days is the twisted metal that once was his mobile home and the scattered debris that once was his lifetime of possessions.
But Samuel isn’t complaining. He and his wife of 50 years survived the tornado that struck their Springdale, Arkansas home, along with many others on the street where they lived.
Samuel, who considers himself fortunate to come through the storm unhurt, was sitting in a lawn chair surveying the damage when two Red Cross caseworkers stopped to see if he needed any assistance.
He talked about some things he and his wife needed and how grateful that there were those who could help him.
“I’m really glad you guys are out here helping those who really need it,” he said. “There’s nothing more to say than thank you. We really appreciate the help.”
Looking around at what’s left of his home, Samuel said, “We lost everything, yes. But as long as there is life, we are good.”
