Annually, the American Red Cross responds to more than 70,000 disasters. Across Arkansas, Red Cross responds to more than 1,500 disasters. The majority of responses nationally and locally is residential fires. Disaster responders assist Arkansans an average of four times every day and night after a home fire. The state is consistently in the top five nationally in the number of fires, and in the top three of the Federal Emergency Management Agencies (FEMA) High Fire Fatality List. In addition to fires, responders provide immediate emergency care after weather related disasters including storms, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, and man-made incidents such as explosions, hazardous material spills and search and rescue operations. The call for help is responded to 24 hours a day, weekends and holidays.

Volunteers provide needed skills and care for the thousands of disaster responses, disaster education and training for communities around the state and more. Red Cross health and safety courses provide important accident preventing and lifesaving skills from Babysitter Training for pre-teens, to First Aid, CPR and Automatic External Difibrillator (AED) and water safety, to professional rescue level courses.
Military personnel from Arkansas continue to be actively engaged in operations stateside as well as around the world. When emergencies affect their love ones here, the American Red Cross is ready 24 hours a day, every day and night to make the needed connections. In addition to securing release of military members in times of emergencies, we also provide additional services for active and non-active members and their spouses and dependents for emergency and non-emergency situations.
