Bo and Steve met while volunteering with the American Red Cross ... and found something even more meaningful than they expected.
Both are Red Cross Biomedical Ambassador volunteers, helping check in blood donors at drives across the Tucson area. What started as service to their community turned into a connection that grew into love.
Steve and Bo met at the Foothills Donor Center where they are volunteers. It took Steve a while after they first met to ask Bo out. They went to a concert together then they started going on lunch dates.
“The kind of amazing thing is we are different people in a lot of ways. The one thing we have in common is that we approach volunteering at the Red Cross the same way,” Bo said.
“We are both very dedicated volunteers. We’ve actually both won the Volunteer of the Year Award for biomedical,” Steve said.
Their story is a reminder that love can find you anywhere (at any age!) especially when you’re doing something that matters.
Bo and Steve encourage everyone to donate blood.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Whether it’s a person giving birth, a child with sickle cell disease receiving a transfusion or a cancer patient undergoing treatment, access to blood and blood products is a necessity.
The American Red Cross is the nation’s largest single supplier, providing about 40% of blood and blood products. Each day, the Red Cross must collect about 12,000 units of blood at approximately 500 blood drives in order to meet this constant and urgent need. Blood donation appointments can be scheduled by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, downloading the Blood Donor App or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
