When it comes to preventing home fire deaths and injuries, no organization can do it alone. That's why the American Red Cross of Arizona was proud to join Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA), the Arizona Burn Foundation and community volunteers for the CAFMA Community Smoke Alarm Walk in Prescott in September.

Working together, volunteers visited homes throughout the community, testing existing smoke alarms, installing new alarms where needed and sharing fire safety information with residents. By the end of the morning, teams had installed 46 new smoke alarms, making 53 homes safer and helping families take an important step toward being better prepared for a home fire.

The event brought together CAFMA firefighters and families, community volunteers, and partners united by a common goal: making homes safer. Alongside smoke alarm installations, volunteers spoke with residents about the importance of testing smoke alarms monthly and creating and practicing a home fire escape plan at least twice a year.

Partnerships like this play a critical role in building community resilience. While smoke alarms provide an early warning that can save lives during a fire, the conversations that happen at the doorstep help families develop the knowledge and plans needed to respond quickly in an emergency. Together, these efforts help reduce risk before a disaster occurs.
