With so much going on in the news, we wanted to update you on our response to Super Typhoon Sinlaku, which has made landfall on Tinian and Saipan as an extremely dangerous storm with 130 mph winds, heavy rain, and waves over 40 feet high.
Seven American Red Cross volunteers from across Arizona and New Mexico left for Guam last weekend to join a hundred volunteers pre-staged before Typhoon Sinlaku made landfall. Additional volunteers will deploy once Typhoon Sinlaku makes landfall. Over 700 people have stayed in Guam shelters on Monday (Tuesday in Guam).
The Red Cross is finalizing plans for sheltering after the storm’s impact. Along with local Red Cross volunteers, they are working with local and federal partners and community agencies to ensure people get the help they need.
To find a shelter, visit www.redcross.org, download the free Red Cross Emergency App, or call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767). People can also check with local officials and monitor local news for information on where to find emergency shelter.
