Red Cross provided assistance with temporary housing and immediate emergency needs.
American Red Cross volunteers responded to two residential fires that occurred on Sunday. One fire took place in Waianae on Oahu and the other fire took please in Ocean View on the Big Island. Red Cross volunteers went to the scene to meet with the affected residents and provided assistance with temporary housing and immediate emergency needs. Caseworkers will continue to follow up with the family to ensure their immediate needs are met, and to provide referrals to assist with their disaster recovery.
The Red Cross encourages all families to make a disaster plan to include an evacuation plan with two different routes of escape, a communications plan to help families reconnect after disaster and a disaster supplies kit that is readily available to aid in a quick evacuation. Information on developing a family plan is available to the public at www.redcross.org, or a brochure can be requested by calling 734-2101.
The Red Cross is not a government agency and depends on public contributions to help others. All Red Cross assistance to disaster victims is free.
