On Wednesday, volunteers and members of the Red Cross of Illinois and UL Research Institutes, UL Standards & Engagement, and UL Solutions installed 105 free smoke alarms for 32 families during a Sound the Alarm home fire safety event in Evanston.
“We are grateful to the UL organizations for supporting this Sound the Alarm event to help keep dozens of our neighbors safe from home fires,” said Kellie O’Connell, CEO for the Red Cross of Illinois. “Home fires are a constant threat in our community, accounting for most of our disaster responses. This week’s efforts will make a lasting difference to help save lives and protect those who are most vulnerable.”
The UL organizations’ support of the American Red Cross extends beyond Wednesday’s smoke alarm installation event. From activating quickly to provide aid after major disasters across the country to championing lifesaving efforts by supporting events like the Red Cross Heroes Breakfast, UL Research Institutes, UL Standards & Engagement, and UL Solutions continue to demonstrate their commitment to building safer, more resilient communities.
SAVING LIVES FROM THE NATION’S MOST FREQUENT DISASTER This Sound the Alarm event is a critical part of the national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which has helped save 2,508 lives — including 45 in Illinois — since launching in October 2014.
