All received comfort kits and blankets. 224 meals were provided including shelter meals and meals for partner organization volunteers. Snacks, water and ice were also provided throughout impacted communities.
Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV's) were also deployed from Burlington and Waterloo to assist with distribution of supplies. 565 clean-up kits were distributed in Bremer, Clinton and Chickasaw Counties. Additionally rakes, shovels, gloves and trash bags were provided through mobile distribution in ERV's throughout the hardest hit areas.
Sumner City Manager Lisa Oberbroeckley said, The Red Cross has been immensely beneficial to us here in Sumner. As soon as they got into town that first Saturday morning we had people going up to them (at the shelter) just looking for a place to be. The Red Cross was providing food and water and a lot of our citizens took advantage of it...and that allowed us city workers to focus on what we needed to do and mitigate the flood.
