5C—Credibility: Regional Logistics and Mass Care Lead Rene Beezley
From the nominator: Our Red Cross value of credibility defines that we act with integrity, are transparent guardians of the public trust and honor our priorities.
When I think about the description and defining behaviors for “credible," Rene is the first person I think of in our region. Everyone in Disaster Cycle Services and who interacts with the department has complete confidence in her and values her insights on a variety of disaster-related topics. This goes beyond active disaster relief operations and related planning activities.
The latest example that comes to mind is preparing for Tulsa Sound the Alarm. Rene took on much more of the work leading up to the event than anticipated because of staff turnover, yet she continued to display the values and behaviors for this “C.” In a meeting with fire department partners, she gave them a clear picture of the Red Cross’ current approach to the event and had an honest conversation about our commitments, our capacity and the fire department’s abilities. She also took information from the fire department about smoke alarms being a few years old—and unlikely to last the 10 years clients are told they will—and had a solution ready in her mind.
From the conversation with the fire department, Rene was able to refine our approach to Tulsa Sound the Alarm and present a proposal that the regional executive supported despite changes in scope from what we’d initially pursued. This meeting is a picture of what Rene does day in, day out, and it’s why I’m nominating her for the Credible award.

He puts in the work and stays committed to the mission.
