The American Red Cross of South Central and Southeast Kansas is pleased to announce its board of directors for the year.

These 22 individuals help guide regional strategic planning, community engagement, and fundraising as the chapter delivers services to nearly 1 million residents of local communities.

The board named three officers and welcomed two new members.

Kaley Sturgeon, Chair — Senior Communications Manager at Evergy

Kaley Sturgeon has worked at Evergy since 2018. In her current role, she leads media relations, employee communications and community engagement for infrastructure improvement projects across Kansas and Missouri.

Kaley has served on the Red Cross board since 2022. She has been a Red Cross volunteer since high school and is passionate about supporting the organization's mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering.

A graduate of Kansas State University, Kaley enjoys reading, trying new recipes and spending time with her husband, son and basset hound.

Ryan Murphy, Vice Chair — Senior Vice President/Treasurer at Fidelity Bank

Ryan began his career with Fidelity Bank in the summer of 2003 as an intern while completing his college degrees. After graduating from the University of Kansas in 2004 with a double major in business administration and psychology and a minor in marketing, he returned to Fidelity Bank.

Ryan has held a variety of roles there in the finance department and was promoted to Senior Vice President/Treasurer in 2017. Ryan is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking and has participated in Fidelity Bank’s Key Talent program, Advance Kansas and Leadership Wichita. He was a candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man of the Year campaign in 2014 and earned the Certificate of Executive Leadership from the University of Wisconsin in 2015.

Heather Krull, Secretary — Community Relations Specialist at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas

Heather joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas in the spring of 2014 as a member of the external sales department. Prior to joining BCBSKS, she served as a children's case manager for Comcare.

A native of Hays, Kansas, Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a paralegal certificate from Fort Hays State University.

In July 2023, she was promoted to community relations specialist in the community relations department at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. In her current role, she coordinates employee volunteer opportunities across the state, cultivates and maintains partnerships with nonprofit organizations, leads the company's Employee Volunteer Disaster Response Team in partnership with the Red Cross and coordinates the annual employee giving campaign benefiting United Way.

In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with friends, family and her dog, Titan.

Lea Armstrong, new board member — Nursing Manager at Ascension Rehab Hospital

Lea’s 43-year nursing career has included stints at St. Francis, working directly with physicians, and 20 years as a nurse practitioner in neurosurgery.

Lea is married and a mother of two grown children, Abe and Sharona. She has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also loves dogs and has three of them. Lea is training her youngest pup to be a therapy dog to do rounds at the hospital with her. She’s a member of the HAPI therapy dog group.

Lea enjoys fishing, baking and bowling. She volunteers at the Lord’s Diner and anywhere else she can.

Terrell Rohr, new board member — Controller of Consolidations and Reporting at Koch, Inc.

Terrell Rohr oversees consolidation and external financial reporting functions at Koch, Inc. She has over 25 years of experience in accounting, reporting and financial leadership.

Prior to joining Koch in 2008, Terrell was a controller at DEN Management and worked in public accounting at BKD. She holds an MBA and a BBA in accounting from Fort Hays State University. She is also a certified public accountant.

In her free time, Terrell spends time with her husband, Randy, and two children, Alexis and Landon, who both attend the University of Kansas.
