BATON ROUGE, JUNE 7, 2022 — The Louisiana Region of the American Red Cross is hosting an “Open House” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, at the Capital Area-West Chapter office in Baton Rouge, offering residents the opportunity to tour the warehouse, and see how the Red Cross is more prepared than ever for hurricane season. The public is encouraged to attend and start making hurricane readiness plans now.
Several “stations” will be set up where the community can learn more about the mission of the American Red Cross and how to get involved with the Team Louisiana. These stations will include classrooms manned with Red Cross staff and volunteers offering hands-on CPR training classes, shelter simulations, Pedro the Penguin and Pillowcase Projects demos for kids, disaster action team exercises and helpful information about Service to the Armed Forces. In addition, there will be several tours of the warehouse, the “ground zero” location for hurricane-related events throughout the state, where the Emergency Response Vehicle, ‘Britney’ is housed along with floor-to-ceiling supplies needed for hurricane season and other disasters.
One demonstration will take visitors through the steps that Louisiana Red Cross undergoes to prepare for hurricane season, and a few easy tips to help anyone make their own preparations:
