Summertime is wonderful in Michigan, but hospitals don’t take a summer break. That’s why as more people make vacation plans and change their schedules, blood account manager Brittany Tasior reminds people to make an appointment to roll up a sleeve and give blood.

“I appreciate those who give so much. They are donating their time and giving something that can save lives,” Tasior said.

As the account manager covering areas around Hillsdale and Lenewee counties, Tasior partners with organizations to execute drives, develop new sponsor leads and performs community outreach about Red Cross requirements for blood collection.

“There are so many reasons why people work with us to plan blood drives. I love the sense of community it creates,” Tasior said.

Tasior said she also likes learning about the journey of blood collection – how it is shipped, where it ends up and who it helps. The Red Cross has a Blood Donor App that allows you to schedule a donation near you, and it also allows you to track your own blood donation. Tasior said blood donations like yours could help give hope to families in need.

“I get to hear so many stories that are so inspiring,” Tasior said. “It’s a bonding experience for everyone involved.”

Tasior encourages people to donate if they can, especially during the summer when the blood supply is vulnerable. She said blood collection teams make the donation process easy, not only for seasoned donors but for first-timers as well. Tasior advises donors not to hesitate to ask questions during their donation process.

For those who are unable to donate blood for any reason, Tasior said people can still get involved in a different way. Volunteers to help set up and run blood drives are always needed, for example.

“You get to meet people while helping people,” Tasior said. “The dedication of our volunteers and donors is just beautiful. I don’t know where we’d be without them.”
