As our country pauses to honor our nation’s veterans and their families, we here at the Dakotas Region of the American Red Cross would like to take a moment to recognize our many military veterans, active duty service members and military family members who also serve as dedicated Red Cross volunteers. Without your commitment to this organization, we would be unable to deliver critical services to the people who count on us most.

Our veterans work tirelessly, providing comfort to those in the path of a storm or a hug to a family who just lost their home to fire. They also offer support to other veterans, through the many programs made available thanks to the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces network. 

In Fiscal Year 2017, the Dakotas Region is proud to have supported hundreds of service members and families by:

• Providing 364 critical community case services and 1,207 emergency communication services.
• Teaching 1,662 military members and families how to use our emergency communication system.
• Providing 5,953 care and comfort items to veterans, service members and families. 

We have also made homes safer for veterans by installing free smoke alarms through the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. Much of this work is made possible by veterans who answered the call, this time as American Red Cross volunteers.

The Red Cross is an organization born on the battlefield, and we cannot thank our veterans enough for all that they’ve done, and all they continue to do, to serve our country and our communities. Each and every day they truly make a difference.
