The American Red Cross serving Southwest Minnesota is looking for additional volunteers to help families after disasters, such as home fires. To bolster their ranks, the Red Cross is offering a one-day “Fast Track” training on Saturday, May 6, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

We cannot emphasize enough the significance of having qualified, trained Disaster Action Team volunteers in the community who are able to respond to home fires effectively, says Joe Reinemann, a Red Cross volunteer instructor based in southern Minnesota.

The training will offer multiple classes to prepare disaster relief volunteers for helping people. The classes will instruct volunteers on the types of assistance the Red Cross provides, how assistance is provided, and managing the related information and paperwork efficiently.

Commenting on the continued commitment and service of Red Cross volunteers, Jeff Bengston, Mankato Public Safety Deputy Director and Red Cross board member says, “Red Cross Disaster Action Team members are very helpful to local responders and serve an important role in peoples’ recovery from disaster.
