People will be able to respond to disasters after just one day of training.
On August 26, the American Red Cross serving Southwest Minnesota is offering a one-day “Fast Track” training for new volunteers. At the Hutchinson Library from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the training will bolster the local ranks of volunteers helping families after disasters, mostly home fires.
“One judges a community’s value by how its residents support each other in a time of need,” says Tom Fatticci, a Winthrop resident and local Red Cross volunteer. “The Red Cross provides an opportunity for common people to assist families when home fires, tornadoes, and other emergencies devastate their homes. Volunteers provide immediate relief, day or night, so survivors can take a breath and regroup.”
“More than 90 percent of the Red Cross workforce is volunteers,” adds Leah Pockrandt, Executive Director of the American Red Cross serving Southwest Minnesota. “We’re looking for more volunteers in the Hutchinson area. It’s easy and people will be able to respond after just one day of training.”
