On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the American Red Cross Long-Term Recovery Team, in collaboration with the Hawai‘i Chapter, hosted a heartfelt luncheon to honor the many organizations contributing to the ongoing recovery efforts across Maui following the devastating Lāhainā and Kula wildfires. This event not only celebrated the resilience and dedication of these partners but also marked a transition, as the Long-Term Recovery Team handed off their relationships to the local Region for continued stewardship.
Each of the recognized organizations plays a vital role in rebuilding Maui, and thanks to grant funding from the American Red Cross, they’ve been able to expand their reach, innovate their services, and uplift the community. The Red Cross’s support exemplifies its humanitarian mission: to mobilize the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors to provide relief and comfort to those in need.
As each group received a commemorative placard, the spirit of unity and shared purpose was palpable. Though each organization has a distinct focus ranging from housing, health and kupuna support, mental health and wellness, access to healthy food, and services to help residents, together they form a powerful network of support—proof that recovery is strongest when built on collaboration. “Today was a special day honoring the local agencies that stood up and advocated for Maui residents impacted by the Lāhainā and Kula wildfires” remarked Renise Bayne, the Red Cross’s regional disaster officer, of the Pacific Islands region, headquartered in Honolulu. The closing remarks, given by Molly Schmidt, the CEO of the American Red Cross Pacific Islands Region concluded that “Together, the Red Cross will continue to stand beside you and Maui. And together, we will ensure that the spirit of aloha continues to guide us—now and always.”
