'Tis the season to be generous. People around the world are giving their time, money and support to community organizations, businesses and other groups. It's all part of a campaign called GivingTuesday, taking place this year on December 2, 2025.
The purpose of Giving Tuesday is to promote generosity and encourage people to make positive changes in their communities.
GivingTuesday has grown over the years into a global movement. Anyone can participate in the campaign. People usually give what they can to community organizations, businesses and other groups of their choice. If people can't give money, they can donate their time.
The American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania is one of many nonprofits participating in GivingTuesday this year. The Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
“When disaster strikes, the Red Cross is there,” said Jorge Martinez, CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania. “Whether it’s a home fire – our nation’s most frequent disaster – or a major incident like a hurricane, tornado, flood or wildfire, our volunteers show up to help people when they need it most.”
The American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania serves nearly 8.7 million people across 61 counties. The nonprofit is supported by more than 3,000 local volunteers. Over the last year, the American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania:
“As you consider local charities to donate to this holiday, we hope you'll choose your local Red Cross for your year-end giving,” Martinez said. “The Red Cross depends on financial donations — not federal funding — to fund nearly 100% of our disaster relief and recovery efforts.
Aside from financial donations, the public can also give their time or donate blood to support the Red Cross mission.
