While you can't go wrong in honoring a loved one with a holiday donation, personalizing it will make it all the more special. We encourage you to choose an issue that is close to your loved one’s heart. The Red Cross has many mission areas in keeping with the spirit of holiday giving, including:
- Providing food, shelter, and other essential items to disaster victims
- Supporting active and veteran U.S. military service members
- Helping families who have been affected by international disasters
- Giving where funds are most urgently needed
Consider your loved one’s passions, interests, and experiences when choosing a gift, such as passion towards helping children, experiencing a disaster themselves, or serving in the armed forces. Or, think of a way to tie their personality into the holiday giving cause. You could make a holiday donation to "where it is needed most" for a person who is always there when you and others are in need. Or, holiday donations to supply cribs and supplies for infants whose families are displaced by a natural disaster would be fitting for people who have helped your children.
Whichever cause is the best fit, your loved ones will know that holiday donations made in their name are the best possible gift, offering hope and support to those in need.
