The American Red Cross, in partnership with Manheim Pennsylvania Auto Auction, Remarketing By Element, and the Hope Fire Department of Manheim, went door-to-door in Manheim Borough to install free smoke alarms and provide important fire safety information to residents during an American Red Cross Sound the Alarm event on Thursday, November 1.
“Each day in our country, seven people die in home fires,” noted Dan Tobin, American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania Region Director of Marketing and Communications. “Unfortunately, here in Pennsylvania, we have witnessed a high number of fatal fires over the past year. Our goal is to provide residents with the tools they need to hopefully reduce the risk of fire and, should one occur, the tools and knowledge to safely evacuate the burning building.”
Since 2014, the American Red Cross has relied on the support of community partners, such as Manheim Pennsylvania Auto Auction and Remarketing By Element, to help us make neighborhoods safer through our Home Fire Campaign and Sound the Alarm smoke alarm installation and education events.
Joey Hughes, Vice President and General Manager of Manheim Pennsylvania Auto Auction, said, “We are excited to be able to bring this program directly to our company’s namesake and founding town. Our auction has many great clients, such as Remarketing By Element, that recognize the important role that the American Red Cross plays across the nation and right here in our hometown with the Home Fire Campaign and these Sound the Alarm events.”
Tobin added, “Having working smoke alarms can increase your chances of making it to safety by over 50%, yet so many homes either have no alarms, or have alarms that are so old that they are no longer capable of detecting smoke. We are so very thankful for the support of our Manheim event sponsors, Manheim Pennsylvania Auto Auction and Remarketing By Element, whose generosity is making it possible for us to hold this Sound the Alarm event in Manheim Borough.”
