Make an Appointment for a FREE Home Fire Safety Visit in Greater Providence
The American Red Cross asks everyone to help Sound the Alarm in Greater Providence and be part of the nationwide Red Cross effort to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires.
Here in Greater Providence the Red Cross Rhode Island is holding a Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event on Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Red Cross volunteers and local partners will be canvassing neighborhoods, installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms and helping families create escape plans. All residents in the area are encouraged to make an appointment for a free home fire safety visit. Participating partners working with the Red Cross include local fire departments, municipalities, community and faith-based organizations.
The Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event in Rhode Island is made possible through the generous support of companies like Lifesaving Partner Kidde.
The Red Cross and partners will be in the following communities on May 5 making free home fire safety visits: Central Falls, Cranston, Pawtucket, Providence and Warwick. To make an appointment, visit soundthealarm.org/rhodeisland or call 1-877-287-3327 and choose option 1.
“Last year, the Rhode Island Red Cross responded to more than 300 home fires. In fact, home fires are the biggest disaster threat our community faces, killing seven people in this country every day,” said Susan Roberts, Executive Director, American Red Cross Rhode Island. “Please help us Sound the Alarm by volunteering to install smoke alarms in your community, making a financial contribution, or taking steps to protect your own family from home fires.”
The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters a year, the majority of which are home fires. Working smoke alarms in a home cut the risk of death by half, and having an escape plan further improves the odds of survival. The Red Cross wants to end these tragedies and save lives, the reason why the organization launched the Home Fire Campaign in 2014.
Across the country, the Campaign is making a difference. As of January 2018, the Red Cross and our partners across the country have saved more than 330 lives and installed more than one million free smoke alarms.
