What sets the Red Cross apart from other blood banks is that we are an emergency relief agency that provides services across the country and down the street.
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization like no other that works to ensure everyone in our country has access to blood products; people affected by disaster receive care and shelter; military personnel and their families find support and comfort whenever needed; and trained individuals are always ready in an emergency to use their Red Cross skills to help save lives.
The Red Cross relies on the generosity of volunteers here in South Carolina to help provide these lifesaving services.
Why should you give blood with The American Red Cross?
The Red Cross is the country’s single largest supplier of blood, and has the only national network of blood collection and distribution centers, which lets it quickly move blood around the U.S. as needed, even in disasters. While local hospital needs are prioritized, the Red Cross is committed to ensuring all hospital patients throughout the country have blood when and where they need it. Here in South Carolina, we help provide over 30 hospitals with life-saving blood.
Red Cross blood donors can feel good knowing that their donation will help patients at local hospitals first and then potentially those same patients at major medical centers when they need to travel outside the area for specialized care. The Red Cross strives to meet local hospital needs first, and then through our national inventory management system, we can move blood products throughout our area and across the country – wherever there is a need.
In addition to providing blood products, the Red Cross mobilizes relief to families affected by disasters, trains people in lifesaving skills, provides services to active and veteran U.S. military personnel and their families, and increases public awareness of the need for emergency preparedness.
The American Red Cross has been serving the people of local communities for over 135 years and has always been a part of the local community. That is why, when you decide to donate blood, we hope you will choose to give with the Red Cross.
You can help save lives by donating blood or platelets with the Red Cross. To learn more about blood donations, visit RedCrossBlood.org, download the Blood Donor App, or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
If you are unable to give blood, you can still support the Red Cross by signing up to host a blood drive, volunteering your time, asking others to donate or creating a SleevesUp virtual blood drive.
