Red Cross volunteers set up shelter after fire in Goose Creek
Goose Creek, S.C., October 2, 2019 – Disaster-trained volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping approximately 50 people after an apartment fire on Swift Boulevard this morning.
Team members provided comfort kits, containing personal hygiene items, and financial assistance for immediate needs to the displaced residents. The Red Cross also provided food and hydration to residents and first responders. Nearly a dozen volunteers were on the scene for several hours Wednesday to make sure residents had what they needed in the wake of the large fire.
The Red Cross, along with its partners, have opened a shelter to help house the families impacted. The shelter will open at 4:30 p.m. on October 2, 2019 and be located at Goose Creek United Methodist Church. The address for the shelter is 142 Red Bank Road in Goose Creek.
“Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this morning’s massive fire,” said Louise Welch-Williams, the Regional CEO of the Red Cross of South Carolina. “The Red Cross remains committed to helping residents recover from the blaze.”
The Red Cross will continue to stay in contact with its partners to see if any additional assistance is needed.
