HOUSTON, TX — APRIL 25, 2018 — The American Red Cross is seeking people to volunteer their time and help save lives at the Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event on May 5 in the Sunnyside community from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
“We need volunteers to Sound the Alarm in Houston and become a part of a community-wide effort to save lives,” said Henry Van De Putte III, Regional Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast. “By volunteering with the Red Cross, you can help reduce the number of deaths and injuries from home fires. Please join us and help make Houston safer by volunteering for the May 5th event.”

The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters a year, the majority of which are home fires. In 2014, the Red Cross launched the Home Fire Campaign to end these tragedies and save lives.
The campaign is making a difference. Since 2014, the Red Cross and partners have installed 1,173,150 free smoke alarms and saved at least 416 lives across the country. The Texas Gulf Coast region has installed 1,293 smoke alarms this year.
