DALLAS, DECEMBER 17, 2022 — The American Red Cross North Texas Region is taking part in Wreaths Across America Day to honor veterans and their families. On the morning of December 17 at 10:30 a.m., Service to the Armed Forces employees and volunteers will gather and place wreaths at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Each December, Wreaths Across America Day is celebrated at more than 3,400 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad in coordination with wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery. Service to the Armed Forces for the North Texas Region has been an active participant for years.
“We are dedicated to remembering our fallen heroes alongside their families,” said Katrina Gonzalez, Service to the Armed Forces and International Services Regional Program Director, North Texas Region. “Our volunteers take this opportunity each year to pause, reflect and show reverence to the service these men and woman provided during their lifetimes.”
The North Texas Region is also participating in Wreaths Across America Day events elsewhere in the state. Red Cross volunteers will be on hand in Abilene and Lubbock, placing wreaths at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene and the City of Lubbock Cemetery. The Central and South Texas Region is also taking part in ceremonies at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso and Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Wreaths Across America began as one man’s tribute to veterans at Arlington National Cemetery, eventually growing into a national commemoration. It continues to grow in communities throughout the United States, thanks to a national network of volunteers, including the Red Cross, who are dedicated to the organization’s simple message to remember, honor and teach.
Every day, Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces employees and volunteers help members of the military, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with and respond to the challenges of military service across the country and around the world. The Red Cross has been serving the military for more than 140 years and has deployed alongside military in every U.S. conflict since the Spanish-American War.
