LUBBOCK, TEXAS, Oct. 9, 2023 - Deshun Avery joined the American Red Cross North Texas Region in August as the executive director for the Texas Panhandle Plains Chapter, which includes 41 counties with over 434,000 residents. The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
“Deshun is a devoted and humble servant who cares deeply for people. He is known for his unwavering dedication and compassionate nature,” said Linda Braddy, CEO of the American Red Cross North Texas Region. “His reputation for kindness and selflessness has spread throughout the community. His willingness to listen and learn from those around him has led to tremendous collaborative efforts in the community he serves.”
Before joining the Red Cross, Deshun served at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for 18 years. Deshun helped create a values-based culture and provide leadership training and development classes to over 5,000 employees, who were located on various campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, Abilene, Midland, Odessa, Dallas, San Angelo and many more satellite locations throughout Texas including employees
at 27 correctional facilities.
“We can accomplish anything if we work together,” said Avery. “Helping others is an honor and privilege, especially in these times of need.”
Avery has gleaned a wealth of inspiration from activist and civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. One of his favorite quotes from Dr. King is, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Working for the American Red Cross will allow Deshun to ‘do for others’ by helping to alleviate human suffering across the panhandle plains community.
