Roxanne and Ralph spent their Christmas Eve supporting the Red Cross with Ralph donating blood and Roxanne photographing the blood drive.
Ralph and Roxanne Schorbach can often be found at American Red Cross blood drives throughout the Phoenix area, quietly supporting a mission that has been part of their lives for decades. Their journey with the Red Cross began in the late 1980s in the Los Angeles Region, where both became involved in disaster services and learned firsthand the impact volunteers can have during moments of crisis.
Ralph brought a strong background in radio communications and quickly put those skills to work, serving as Communications Chair for the Pomona Valley Chapter and as a member of the Disaster Action Team. While he is less active today, Ralph continues to support the mission by regularly donating blood.
Roxanne’s Red Cross service now spans more than 40 years. Over time, her work evolved from disaster response to media and communications, where she documented Red Cross efforts through photography. Her assignments have included disaster response to earthquakes, flooding, wildfires, and home fires, as well as regional training exercises, community first aid teams, Tiffany Circle events, and volunteer recognition ceremonies.
Outside of her Red Cross work, Roxanne spent 18 years working with the Comboni Missionaries in California. While traveling with the organization, she took time to visit Red Cross headquarters and operations in France, Mexico, Uganda, Kenya, and South Sudan, experiences that broadened her understanding of humanitarian work around the world.
After moving to Arizona during the COVID-19 pandemic, Roxanne became a Visual Storyteller with the Red Cross Phoenix Chapter, focusing on photography and short-form storytelling. She works closely with the Red Cross and the Civil Air Patrol to promote blood drives through Operation Pulse Lift, helping share powerful stories about the importance of blood donation. Roxanne especially enjoys talking with donors and learning how the Red Cross helped them—or someone they love—during a disaster or medical emergency.
Together, Ralph and Roxanne’s story reflects a lifelong commitment to service, compassion, and showing up when it matters most—an invitation for others to donate blood, volunteer, and become part of the Red Cross mission.
