Whether you donate funds, donate blood or volunteer, we depend on your support to make a difference in communities across the country.
Each year, the President of the United States proclaims March as "Red Cross Month,” giving us an opportunity to honor and celebrate the everyday heroes who help us fulfill our mission.
Our Proud Legacy
The tradition of March being declared Red Cross Month began in 1943 with a proclamation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt and for more than 75 years, all U.S. presidents have designated this month. This March, we are honored to recognize all those who have answered the call to help others under our Red Cross emblem that continues to stand for help and hope during the most challenging of times.
We salute all of our volunteers and employees who make a difference in their communities by donating blood or platelets; volunteering to help people affected by a disaster; taking a first aid or CPR class to help in an emergency; or providing comfort to a member of the military, a veteran or their family.
More than 75 years ago, March was first proclaimed Red Cross Month in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to raise awareness of the organization and its humanitarian mission.
This spring, volunteers are needed to help install 100,000 smoke alarms in vulnerable communities nationwide – including here in the California Gold Country Region.
From First Aid and CPR training, to Lifeguard and EMR certification, the American Red Cross has the emergency health and safety training and certification options available to suit everyone’s needs.
